The first Pool B match on day three was between Brazil and Chile. For the first ten minutes of the match, both teams traded possession in the midfield. In the 11th minute, Chile got the first penalty corner of the match Nicolas Renz converted the corner to give Chile the lead. Chile continued their attacking pressure. Sven Richter then scored for Chile in the 14th minute increase his teams lead to two goals. At the end of the first quarter the score was Brazil 0, Chile 2.
Chile continued their attacking pressure at the start of the second quarter and quickly earned two penalty corners. Brazil’s keeper Rodrigo Faustino was there to save both drag flick shots. Brazil did not let up and soon earned their first penalty corner of the match in the 20th minute. Adrian Henriquez Chile’s keeper saved the corner. Both teams continued to trade possession. Brazil earned another penalty corner in the 26th minute, but Henriquez was again there for the save. In the final minutes of the second quarter Chile had the ball in their attacking circle, but could not get a good shot off before the end of the second quarter. Thus, the score at halftime was still Brazil 0, Chile 2.
Similar to the first quarter, both teams battled for possession in the midfield for the first ten minutes of the third quarter. And then Chile’s Martin Rodriguez scored off a beautiful passing combination by teammates Vicente Martin and Fernando Martin; making the score Brazil 0, Chile 3 in the 40th minute. Brazil immediately went back on attack and earned a penalty corner, but could not capitalize. Play stayed down in Brazil’s attacking end and then Matheus Borges hit a hard shot past Henriquez in the 42nd minute to get Brazil on the scoreboard.
In the fourth quarter, both teams continued to battle for possession. Neither team could maintain constant attacking pressure. In the 49th minute, Brazil had a penalty corner, but again could not capitalize. Play continued in Chile’s attacking half and in the 56th minute Rodriguez had another good shot on goal but Faustino was there for the save. Chile continued to attack and Faustino made another great save in the 58th minute to keep a high drag flick by Chile from going in. With either team able to score further, the final score ended Brazil 1, Chile 3.
